June 3rd, 2016 is National Doughnut Day!

Originally National Doughnut Day was created to honor The Salvation Army volunteers who served  tasty doughnut treats to soldiers during World War I. Today, some restaurants honor National Doughnut Day by offering free doughnuts!

Did you know that a doughnut is actually friend dough? In many countries, bakers will craft their dough into different shapes such as rings, balls, twists, squares and circles. Doughnuts can even be filled with fruit, cream, custard or sweet fillings and topped with sprinkles and frosting.
